New music star pianist Vicky Chow and inimitable pianist/composer Craig Taborn join forces for an adventurous concert that blurs the lines between new music, jazz and classical. Vicky Chow’s set features contemporary works including Rituál by Tania León (who just won the Pulitzer Prize for music), Gustave Le Gray by Caroline Shaw and Lamenting G.F., A.A., B.T., T.M by Tomeka Reid, and Craig Taborn will premier a set of his new compositions and improvisations titled 3 Set Ups and a Double Cross.
This concert will be followed by a reception.

Canadian pianist Vicky Chow has been described as “brilliant” (New York Times) and “one of our era’s most brilliant pianists” (Pitchfork). The New Yorker wrote [on her recording of Michael Gordon’s SONATRA], “'Sonatra' is a milestone of composition, and Vicky Chow’s recording of it is a milestone of pianism." Her album “Surface Image” composed by Tristan Perich was among the top 10 Avant Music albums in “The Rolling Stone” magazine.
As an artist frequently broadcasted on WNYC radio, her recorded work can be found on the 'Nonesuch', 'New Amsterdam', ‘Tzadik’, and ‘Cantaloupe’, labels. Interviews and articles featuring Ms. Chow was published in the Huffington Post, Gramophone, The New York Times, and others. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, she is based in Brooklyn, New York and is currently the pianist for Bang on a Can All-Stars. She is on the Board of Advisors for Composers Now, and is also a mentor as part of the Juilliard School mentoring program. Ms. Chow is a Yamaha Artist.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Craig Taborn has been performing piano and electronic music in the jazz, improvisational, and creative music scene for over twenty five years. He has experience composing for and performing in a wide variety of situations including jazz, new music, electronic, rock, noise and avant-garde contexts.
Taborn has played and recorded with many luminaries in the fields of jazz, improvised, new music and electronic music including Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith, Lester Bowie, Dave Holland, Tim Berne, John Zorn, Evan Parker, Steve Coleman, David Torn, Chris Potter, William Parker, Vijay Iyer, Kris Davis, Nicole Mitchell, Susie Ibarra, Ikue Mori, Carl Craig, Dave Douglas, Meat Beat Manifesto, Dan Weiss, Chris Lightcap, Gerald Cleaver, and Rudresh Manhathappa.
Taborn is currently occupied creating and performing music for solo piano performance (Avenging Angel), piano trio (Craig Taborn Trio), an electronic project (Junk Magic), the Daylight Ghosts Quartet, a piano/drums/electronics duo with Dave King (Heroic Enthusiasts) and a new trio with Tomeka Reid and Ches Smith as well as piano duo collaborations with Vijay Iyer (The Transient Poems), Kris Davis (Octopus) and Cory Smythe. He is also a member of the instrumental electronic art-pop group Golden Valley is Now and performs frequently on solo electronics.
